Business and commercial building owners want to make informed decisions about
energy reduction measures. Perhaps the most critical decision is choosing a
consultant or vendor who has the knowledge and experience to assess a building, look
at its usage and then explain the various upgrades and retrofits that could apply.
Knowledgeable energy consultants review the building’s design, construction
materials, and the energy usage patterns of the individuals who work there. Other factors that come into play are the local weather patterns and the situation
of the facility in terms of sun exposure and shade.
Each energy-reduction idea should then be evaluated for its return on investment
(R.O.I.). For instance, installing fluorescent lights where incandescent lights currently
exist could cut electric consumption in half while improving lighting conditions in
the building. Or replacing an older HVAC system with an energy-efficient one could
dramatically reduce the bottom line on utility bills in both winter and summer months. |
